Seresco takes part in the Robodronvi Project
The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, Food and Environment, also known as Mapama, has financed the creation of a national task force within the framework of the National Rural Development Programme and related to the European Innovation Partnership ‘Agricultural Productivity and Sustainability’. The project, called ‘ROBODRONVI’, is a task force for strategic thinking. It was created with the aim of encouraging the application of robotics (both aerial and terrestrial) as a tool to make decision-making processes easier in wineries, for both winegrowers and technicians. Furthermore, the project hopes to improve both the competitiveness and sustainability of the Spanish wine-growing business.
The group has already started its activity by having all participants diagnose the current state of these technologies. Once their diagnoses are shared among the group, strategic and joint decisions will be made so that they can draft an innovation project. Its implementation in 2018 will allow us to use terrestrial robotics supported by aerial robots (drones) in the fields. This aims to help winegrowers in their daily decision-making processes when it comes to managing the vineyard and carrying out different tasks. This task force also seeks to resolve other aspects, such as the real adaptation of robotic systems to national vineyards with different cultivation methods, as well as minimising their environmental impact, improving both the quality and safety in grape harvesting, and increasing production profitability in the vineyards in which these systems are placed.
15 participants are taking part in the project, including wineries, technology companies, business partnerships, designations of origin, small and medium-sized technology enterprises and research centres. The participants representing the Autonomous Community of Asturias are Seresco, dedicated to the development of software solutions and the provision of IT services, and Vitheras, a winery based in Cangas del Narcea.
